Addison Wallace, a standout graduate of Carlson High School, has officially committed to play flag football at Eastern Michigan University, marking a historic first for her alma mater.
Wallace’s decision comes after a stellar high school career in which she helped the Carlson girls flag football team capture two state championship appearances, a feat that underscored her leadership and skill on the field.
A milestone for Carlson athletics
Beyond flag football, Wallace distinguished herself in three other sports, earning second‑team all‑state honors in volleyball for two consecutive seasons, first‑team recognition in basketball, and a defensive standout role on the soccer squad that secured the school’s inaugural Downriver League title.
Her athletic versatility was evident throughout the spring season, when Carlson joined 79 other Michigan schools in launching a girls flag football program, a initiative that has rapidly become a model for expanding opportunities for female athletes in the state.
Eastern Michigan University announced that it will sponsor women’s flag football as a varsity sport beginning in 2027, and Wallace will be among the pioneering athletes to join the program’s inaugural roster, signaling the university’s commitment to growing the sport at the collegiate level.
The commitment reflects not only Wallace’s personal ambition but also the growing visibility of flag football as a competitive collegiate offering, a trend that promises to reshape recruiting pathways for multi‑sport athletes across the region.
