Aden Holloway Pleads Guilty in Drug Case, Avoids Criminal Record

The University of Alabama guard enters pre‑trial diversion after a March arrest involving marijuana and prescription pills.

Aden Holloway, a guard on the University of Alabama men's basketball team, pleaded guilty this week to two drug‑related charges and entered a pre‑trial diversion program that could erase the offenses from his record.

The plea follows a March raid conducted by the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force at a residence on the 400 block of 30th Avenue East in Tuscaloosa, where agents uncovered nearly a kilogram of marijuana and assorted paraphernalia.

The Investigation

Investigators recovered 964 grams of cannabis, including loose buds, a vacuum‑sealed bag, and a rolling tray, as well as a small quantity of prescription medication and a substance identified as Promethazine.

No tax stamp was affixed to the seized marijuana, prompting additional charges of failure to affix stamps, and Holloway was subsequently booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail.

Charges and Indictment

After posting bail, the athlete was suspended from the team, and a grand jury indictment was filed on April 10 on two felony counts of possession of marijuana and failure to affix stamps, along with two misdemeanor counts related to prescription pills and paraphernalia.

Looking Ahead

Under a May 29 agreement, Holloway will remain in a diversion program that requires regular drug testing, community service and a written apology, after which the youthful offender status will be granted if he complies. If the program is completed successfully, the charges will be dismissed and Holloway will be able to resume his collegiate career without a criminal conviction, though the university has not yet announced any further disciplinary actions.
