The Oklahoma Sooners are gearing up for a 2026 campaign that could see their defensive line rank among the nation’s best, and at the center of that conversation is Adepoju Adebawore. The Nigerian‑born lineman has steadily carved out a role that blends raw athleticism with a growing understanding of the game.
Adebawore arrived in Norman as a top‑20 recruit in the 2023 class, drawing interest from powerhouses such as Georgia, LSU, Oregon and USC. His decision to commit to Oklahoma that summer was sealed under Edge Coach Miguel Chavis, who saw in him a versatile piece for the Sooners’ front.
True freshman year saw him see action in every game, a testament to his immediate impact despite limited snaps. The experience laid a foundation of confidence and physical readiness that would later be tested.
The following season brought setbacks. Injuries restricted his playing time, and he appeared in only ten games, but each snap provided valuable lessons that he carried into the 2025 schedule.
In 2025, Adebawore emerged as a reliable presence on the line, suiting up for all 13 contests. He logged 17 tackles and 5.5 tackles for loss, while also contributing to the pass rush with 5.5 sacks. The production earned him a direct competition with veteran Danny Okoye for a starting spot, a battle that has already begun to shape the unit’s dynamics.
Beyond his own development, Adebawore benefits from the leadership of Taylor Wein, who is widely regarded as the clear leader of the EDGE room. Wein’s guidance, combined with the coaching expertise of Miguel Chavis, creates an environment where younger players can thrive.
