Adrienne Shibles has been named the new head coach of the Colby College women’s basketball program, bringing decades of experience and a deep connection to New England basketball to the role.
A legacy of winning
During her tenure at Bowdoin, Shibles amassed a 281‑win record, the most in program history, and compiled a 419‑163 overall mark that places her among the most victorious coaches in Division III history. She also guided Dartmouth to competitive seasons in Division I, earning recognition as the NCAA Division III Coach of the Year and induction into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame.
Her coaching journey began as an assistant at Bates after a standout playing career at Mount View High School, and she has since built a reputation for developing talent and fostering disciplined, thoughtful play across the conference.
A homecoming for a Maine native
Shibles described the appointment as a full‑circle moment, returning to the state where she honed her basketball roots and where her family’s legacy is intertwined with the sport. She expressed a desire to give back to the community that shaped her early career.
Amanda V. DeMartino, Harold Alfond Director of Athletics at Colby, praised Shibles as a decorated coach and emphasized that she was selected as the best available hire for the program, highlighting her strategic acumen and leadership.
