Every Tuesday and Thursday evening, the sound of sneakers on the grass at Wallis Park signals the start of a lively soccer gathering that has become a cornerstone of Lunenburg’s summer scene.
A Program Built on Free Play and Community
The AFC Polymers Street Futsal Fiesta welcomes children born between 2013 and 2016 to a schedule that runs through mid‑August, offering two hours of organized yet informal play from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Founder Cesar Vega designed the program to prioritize creativity and ball mastery, allowing participants to experiment with moves without the pressure of rigid drills.
Ainsley Norris, an eleven‑year‑old regular, describes the experience as "the best place to get countless touches on the ball," while fellow players Autumn Gerra, Grace Loughlin, Aria Mulone and Parker Sawyer value the chance to sharpen passing and footwork.
What began with a single team in 2022 has blossomed into seven squads serving roughly 70 youngsters by 2025, a growth spurt that reflects the program’s inclusive ethos and its ties to Leominster’s industrial roots.
The AFC Polymers U10 girls team captured the Futsal NH League division title in 2024, and three of the program’s sides celebrated league championships during the previous season.
Revenue from custom t‑shirt designs and snack sales is funneled back into the initiative, helping cover equipment, field rentals and travel costs.
Looking Ahead
With a festive atmosphere that blends music, friendly competition and community spirit, the fiesta continues to evolve, promising more opportunities for youth to develop confidence on and off the field.
