The adjustment came after a meeting on July 29, where the private school advisory committee shared recommendations that the AHSAA adopted. The panel, formed shortly after the initial classification was set, emphasized the need for greater postseason access.
Executive Director Heath Harmon highlighted the committee's contribution, stating that the new structure reflects a commitment to fairness and expanded opportunity for schools across the state.
Under the revised format, more programs will earn a first‑round berth, a shift designed to reward competitive balance and to give more student‑athletes a chance to contend for a state title.
