Arizona Secures Commitment of Texas Defensive Lineman Ahzan Bacote
Ahzan Bacote, a 6-foot-2, 270-pound defensive lineman from Cornerstone Christian School in San Antonio, revealed his commitment to the University of Arizona on Tuesday, ending a recruitment that had drawn interest from a dozen programs.
During his junior season he logged 40 tackles, 20 for loss, 12 sacks and four quarterback hurries, numbers that placed him as the 101st defensive lineman in Texas and the 852nd overall prospect in the 247Sports Composite.
Bacote’s physical profile draws immediate comparison to former Arizona standout Mays Pese, whose build and on-field presence have become a benchmark for Wildcats linemen.
The recruit considered offers from across the country before narrowing his choices to a handful of schools that could provide both academic fit and immediate playing time, ultimately deciding on Tucson after an official visit.
His decision also underscores a growing pipeline of Texas talent in Arizona’s 2027 class, where four of the seven pledged players hail from the Lone Star State.
Beyond football, Bacote competes in shot put and wrestling, a multi-sport background that adds depth to his work ethic and competitiveness.
The commitment comes as Arizona continues to reshape its defensive front, aiming to translate its recent successes into a sustainable recruiting model that can compete nationally.
