A new chapter for Maverick baseball
Minnesota State head coach Matt Magers announced this week that Aidan Byrne will join the Maverick baseball staff as an assistant coach. The move comes as the program prepares for the upcoming season, with Magers highlighting Byrne’s deep familiarity with the program’s culture and his proven leadership as a player.
Byrne spent four seasons at Minnesota State from 2022 through 2025, emerging as the program’s all‑time leader in at‑bats, hits, singles, runs scored and RBI. His collegiate résumé includes a .257 batting average in 2026, 49 hits, four doubles, three triples and two home runs, and a stint with the Fargo‑Moorhead Redhawks of the Independent League Baseball over the past two seasons.
A record‑setting legacy
During his tenure, Byrne set program records for career at‑bats (812), hits (293), singles (203), runs scored (236) and RBI (188), cementing his place as the most prolific offensive contributor in Minnesota State history.
Beyond his on‑field production, Byrne amassed a suite of academic and athletic accolades. He earned All‑NSIC Second Team honors in 2024 and All‑NSIC First Team in 2025, was selected to the CSC Academic All‑American Second Team in 2025, and captured the Don Buchanan award after the 2024‑25 athletic season. His three CSC Academic All‑American recognitions make him the only Maverick baseball player in school history to achieve that distinction.
Minnesota State finished the 2026 campaign with a 40‑16 record and a berth in the NCAA Tournament, underscoring the program’s upward trajectory. Byrne’s transition from standout player to coach is expected to reinforce the team’s depth and provide continuity for the next generation of student‑athletes.
