Akshay More, a 27‑year‑old right‑hander from Mumbai, has agreed to a contract with the Saitama Seibu Lions of Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball, bringing the Indian pitcher into one of the country’s most storied franchises.
A Quick Rise Through the Ranks
The move follows a breakout season in the United States‑based Baseball United, where More starred for the Mumbai Cobras and caught the eye of scouts with a fastball that consistently hit the mid‑90s.
In his debut professional campaign, More led the league in wins with two victories while posting a 1.42 earned run average, striking out 11 batters and walking only seven over 14 ⅔ innings.
His performance peaked in the championship series when he started Game 2, delivering 3 ⅓ innings and allowing just one earned run.
Looking Ahead
Seibu Lions Director and General Manager Koji Hiroike praised the newcomer, saying he believes More has tremendous potential and could become a beacon for baseball in India.
The Lions hope the pitcher’s development will not only strengthen their own roster but also inspire a new generation of Indian players to pursue the sport at the highest level.
