Alabama Baseball Secures Transfer Catcher Mateo Serna Ahead of Next Season

The addition of an experienced backstop bolsters the Crimson Tide’s roster as they look to build on a historic campaign.

Alabama's baseball program capped a remarkable season by reaching the College World Series, a feat not achieved since 1999, and the excitement is already spilling into the offseason.

Enter Mateo Serna, a switch‑hitting catcher who transferred from Missouri. Over his two‑year stint with the Tigers he started 44 games, batting .240 with a .361 on‑base percentage, while posting a career fielding percentage of .988 and throwing out 13 of 77 would‑be base stealers.

Serna announced his commitment on social media late Friday, expressing enthusiasm about joining the Crimson Tide and contributing to a staff that is aiming to sustain its recent success.

Adding Arms to the Mix

Alongside Serna, Alabama has welcomed pitchers Garrett Lambert and Michael Senay, both of whom bring experience from previous collegiate programs and add depth to a pitching rotation that will need to replace the graduating seniors.

The departing seniors, Brady Neal and John Lemm, provided steady backstop work in 2026, with Neal batting .316 and posting a .970 OPS in 61 games, while Lemm contributed a .253 average, 10 homers and nine doubles.

The Crimson Tide finished the year 42‑21 overall, fell short in Omaha after back‑to‑back losses to Oklahoma and Texas, but the influx of transfer talent suggests the program is positioning itself for another strong campaign.
