Alabama’s men’s basketball program announced Tuesday that it will enter the 2026‑27 season with two pivotal leadership changes, promoting Josh Pierre to director of player development and rehiring Alex Accetta as director of program relations.
Key Staff Changes
Pierre, who has overseen a decade‑long resurgence for the Crimson Tide, moves up from his previous role as director of operations, a position he has held since joining the staff in 2022. His father, Butch Pierre, brings more than three decades of college coaching experience, while his brother Joe Pierre III has also been involved in the program’s support staff.
Under his watch the Tide amassed 109 victories, captured the 2023 SEC regular‑season and tournament titles, and reached the program’s first NCAA Final Four in the 2023‑24 campaign, while four of his players earned All‑America honors and three were selected in the NBA draft.
Accetta returns after four seasons with the Dallas Mavericks, where she managed VIP and executive hospitality at the American Airlines Center, bringing a blend of hospitality expertise and familiarity with the Alabama program that she previously helped run during the 2021 SEC championship season.
Both appointments are overseen by executive deputy athletic director Shane Lyons, and the moves come under head coach Nate Oats, who has built a culture of sustained competitiveness at the program.
With the roster poised to retain key contributors such as Labaron Philon Jr., Mark Sears and Brandon Miller, the staff reshuffle signals a continued emphasis on player development and fan engagement as Alabama aims to build on its recent successes.
