A Commitment That Locks the Door
Avrian (AJ) Pauley, a 6‑foot‑5, 265‑pound defensive end from McGill‑Toolen Catholic High School in Mobile, announced on Tuesday that he is committing to Alabama and will no longer explore other options.
The decision came after a brief but intense recruitment that featured finalists Michigan, Florida State and Ole Miss. While coaches from those programs pushed to bring him on campus, none of the planned visits materialized, leaving Pauley to weigh his options from afar.
A Boost for Alabama’s 2027 Defensive Line
Pauley joins two other defensive‑line prospects — Tyler Younger of Norcross, Georgia, and Jeremiah Beverly of Tuscaloosa’s Hillcrest High School — to give the Crimson Tide a trio of highly touted linemen in the 2027 class.
The class now stands at 13 total commitments, a group that Rivals ranks No. 34 nationally and 247Sports places at No. 49. The recent addition of four‑star wide receiver Osani Gayles, who chose Alabama over Washington and Stanford, underscores the staff’s momentum under head coach Kalen DeBoer.
DeBoer, in his first year leading the program, has already secured nine commitments since May 31, a pace that has helped the Tide climb the recruiting rankings and attract attention from top prospects across the country.
Pauley’s pledge not only solidifies Alabama’s defensive front but also signals to future recruits that the Tide remains a destination of choice for those who want to compete at the highest level.
