Alabama Soccer Opens 2026 With Draw Against LSU
Alabama’s women’s soccer team opened its 2026 campaign with an exhibition match against No. 16 LSU in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on a warm Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers drew first blood in the seventh minute when a well‑timed header found the back of the net, putting LSU ahead 1‑0. The early goal was followed by a brief pause in play, after which the Crimson Tide regrouped.
Despite generating four shots on target in the first half, Alabama could not convert any of them, leaving the score unchanged at the break.
The deadlock was broken in the 65th minute when Melina Rebimbas received a precise pass from Ashley Roni and slotted the ball past the LSU goalkeeper to level the contest at 1‑1. The goal earned Roni a point on the assist and marked a pivotal moment for the Tide.
Both Larkin Thomason and Ashley Roni contributed offensively, each registering three attempts on goal during the match, underscoring the team’s attacking intent.
The exhibition served as the first of three encounters with ranked opponents in the Tide’s opening four games. Upcoming fixtures include a showdown with No. 21 Memphis on August 15 and a home opener against No. 6 TCU on August 20.
Looking Ahead
Coach’s comments highlighted the value of testing against high‑caliber teams early in the season, noting that the draw against LSU provides a useful benchmark as the squad prepares for the next challenges.
With the schedule tightening, the Crimson Tide will look to translate the experience gained in Baton Rouge into results against Memphis and TCU. The early exposure to top‑ranked competition could prove decisive as the season unfolds.
