The Alaska Nanooks men's basketball program announced the addition of Jagger Francom, a 6‑8 center whose size and skill set promise to reshape the team's interior game. Francom's arrival marks the latest move in a series of strategic signings aimed at strengthening the Nanooks' frontcourt.
A Versatile Frontcourt Addition
Francom comes to Fairbanks after two seasons at Trevecca Nazarene University, where he honed a reputation as a reliable scorer and defensive presence. The center's footwork and soft touch around the rim have drawn praise from coaching staff and teammates alike.
Head coach Frank Ostanik highlighted Francom's potential, noting that the player brings "great feet and exceptional hands" to the program. Ostanik emphasized that Francom's skill set aligns with the team's evolving tactical identity.
In high school, Francom averaged 15.4 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game at Ridgeline High School, earning First Team All‑Region honors and eight Player‑of‑the‑Game selections. He also attended the NCAA Basketball Academy in 2023, further exposing him to elite competition.
The Nanooks have signed three big men over 6'8" in recent months, a deliberate move to increase depth and versatility. Coach Ostanik believes this influx of size will allow the team to experiment with multiple styles of play and remain competitive in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
Beyond the numbers, the addition of Francom is expected to improve the team's ability to score efficiently near the basket and defend the rim more effectively. The coaching staff anticipates that his presence will open up driving lanes for perimeter players and create more second‑chance opportunities.
Looking Ahead
With Francom now part of the roster, the Nanooks aim to translate their enhanced frontcourt talent into tangible results on the court. The team's chemistry will be tested during the upcoming preseason schedule, but early indications suggest a promising outlook for the program.
