The University at Albany has released its 2026‑27 men’s and women’s basketball schedules, a program that blends early‑season challenges with the beginning of America East competition. The announcement sets the stage for a season that will test both squads against a diverse slate of opponents.
Early‑Season Showdowns
The men’s team opens its campaign on November 2 against Division III Rhode Island College, while the women’s squad begins with an exhibition against Northeastern at the same time. Both games mark the first step of a tightly packed November that will see the Great Danes travel and host a variety of opponents.
Key nonconference fixtures include a road test at Syracuse on November 25 and a home clash with Penn State on December 1. The men will also host Siena in the annual Albany Cup on December 12, a game that traditionally draws a large campus crowd.
Under head coach Dwayne Killings, the men’s team will begin America East play on January 7 against Bryant, while first‑year coach Kelly Morrone will guide the women’s team into conference action on December 31 at UMass Lowell. Both coaches have emphasized building momentum early in the season.
The squads will also take part in the newly instituted America East‑Metro Basketball Challenge, a showcase that pits Albany against a mix of regional programs. The men’s schedule lists additional contests against Dartmouth, Holy Cross, Canisius, Mercyhurst, Army, Cornell and others, while the women’s slate features matchups with Northeastern, Rutgers, Bucknell, South Carolina and a host of other opponents.
With a blend of experienced returnees and fresh talent, the Great Danes look to translate the early‑season exposure into sustained success. The upcoming schedule offers ample opportunities for growth, and fans can anticipate competitive games across both programs.
