Albion Basketball Team Celebrates Academic Honors
The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) has recognized five members of the Albion men's basketball program for their exemplary performance in the classroom, placing them on the 2025-26 NABC Honors Court. The honor is reserved for student‑athletes who maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher, underscoring the program’s commitment to balancing athletics and scholarship.
Among those honored, senior forward Kam Mayes and sophomore guard Michael Umeh earned the distinction for the second straight year, a testament to their sustained academic focus and leadership within the team. Their repeated selection highlights a culture that prizes scholarly achievement as much as competitive success.
The Albion squad also captured the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award for the fourth consecutive season. To qualify, the team must have posted a collective GPA of at least 3.0 in the preceding academic year, a benchmark that the program has consistently exceeded.
Since the award’s inception in the 2012‑13 season, the team has been recognized five times, reflecting a sustained pattern of academic resilience. Over the broader span of the Honors Court, 40 distinct Albion players have been named since 2006‑07, illustrating a deep well of scholarship that stretches across more than a decade.
The recognition comes as the program prepares for the upcoming campaign, with coaches emphasizing that the academic standards set by the NABC serve as a blueprint for future success.
