A Legacy Defined by Wins and Community
Aldo Velazquez, a native of the Clark community, has spent 19 seasons at the helm of the Cougars' baseball program, compiling a career that places him among the school's most successful coaches.
His teams posted 310 victories and earned 12 playoff berths, a testament to consistent performance and player development. Velazquez's journey began on the diamond as a student‑athlete, when he helped the 1990‑91 squad capture a spot in the Class 5A state tournament.
Playing shortstop, he faced League City Clear Creek in the semifinals, an experience that later shaped his coaching philosophy. After graduating from Locke Hill Elementary and Hobby Middle School, he returned to Clark as both a player and, eventually, a mentor.
Looking Toward the Future
Though he had originally penciled retirement for the end of the 2026 season to devote more time to family, recent developments have prompted an earlier departure. Velazquez says the decision was not easy, but he remains hopeful that the Cougars will soon reclaim a spot in the state tournament.
In his final weeks, he has emphasized the importance of the pipeline that feeds the program — from Locke Hill and Hobby schools to Clark High — expressing confidence that the next generation will carry forward the tradition of excellence.
The school community will honor Velazquez's contributions, and his legacy will linger in the many players who have gone on to compete at the collegiate level and beyond.
