Aleksander Sekulic has been confirmed as the new head coach of FC Barcelona, signing a contract that runs until 30 June 2028. The Slovenian tactician, known for his international experience, stepped into the role amid considerable anticipation from the club’s leadership and supporters.
Vision for the Future
The official unveiling took place at the club’s training complex, where Sekulic was introduced to a gathering that included club president Joan Laporta and members of the Pujol family, namely Francesc Pujol and Xevi Pujol. The ceremony marked the beginning of a new era for the Catalan giants.
Speaking to the media, Sekulic described the appointment as an honour, stating that coaching one of Europe’s most prestigious clubs is a dream he could not refuse. He expressed confidence that the squad’s quality could be leveraged to achieve ambitious targets.
Central to his philosophy is the concept of playing as a single unit. ‘Every player must contribute to a collective identity,’ he said, emphasizing a style built around high tempo, possession‑based football and an aggressive defensive approach that also prioritises enjoyment.
Sekulic also highlighted the crucial role of the fans, particularly those gathered in the Palau Blaugrana. He called for unwavering support, believing that a passionate crowd can provide the extra impetus needed to turn the team’s vision into tangible success.
While the current roster already boasts world‑class talent, the coach left the door open for new signings, provided they align with the tactical blueprint he intends to implement. ‘We will add players who enhance our philosophy,’ he noted.
