A fresh direction for Pacific women's basketball
Alex Brown has been appointed head coach of the Pacific University women's basketball program, bringing a blend of Northwest recruiting connections and a process‑oriented mindset to the role.
Brown's coaching philosophy centers on building a strong culture, emphasizing player development and daily competition. He describes himself as process‑oriented, focusing on the journey rather than immediate results, and plans to implement a more free‑flowing offense that encourages players to read the game.
His career path includes a stint as a practice player for Gonzaga under Kelly Graves, volunteer work at the University of Portland, two seasons as an assistant at Warner Pacific University, and a head‑coach tenure at Mt. Hood Community College from 2021 to 2023. Prior to that, he helped George Fox University reach consecutive Northwest Conference Tournament championship games, compiling a 21‑11 record in conference play over his final two seasons there.
Keith Buckley, Pacific's Director of Athletics, welcomed Brown, highlighting his passion for the women's game and his deep ties to the region. Buckley noted that Brown and his family are eager to become part of the Pacific community, feeling warmly received by staff and locals.
Brown's experience also includes a role as a player development logger for the WNBA's Portland Fire, where he absorbed a modern, adaptable approach to coaching that now informs his strategies at Pacific.
