A Camp With Purpose
Former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Alex Highsmith returned to his roots this week by opening the fields at Ashley High School in Wilmington, North Carolina, for his annual youth football camp.
The camp, organized by the Alex Highsmith Family Foundation, welcomes boys and girls from grades two through eight, offering instruction in core football techniques alongside lessons in leadership and character development.
Highsmith, a Wilmington native and Ashley High School graduate, emphasizes that the program is about more than athletics; it is a platform to empower the next generation through faith, family and football.
Community Roots
Coaches and volunteers gathered on the practice field, guiding drills and sharing personal stories, while the foundation’s mission of fostering growth through spiritual and familial values resonated throughout the sessions.
Local families praised the opportunity, noting that the blend of skill‑building and mentorship reflects Highsmith’s commitment to nurturing well‑rounded individuals.
