A Strategic Addition
Alex Peavler is the newest assistant coach on the Oregon State Beavers men’s basketball roster, a hire that underscores head coach Justin Joyner’s intent to blend experience with fresh ideas.
Peavler arrives after a decade‑long odyssey through America’s mid‑major circuit, where he helped Memphis, Indiana State and Saint Louis capture multiple conference titles and NCAA tournament appearances.
Championship pedigree meets player development
His journey began as a student manager at Florida Gulf Coast University, progressed to a graduate assistantship under Penny Hardaway at Memphis, and later saw him rise to director of player development at Indiana State before following Josh Schertz to Saint Louis as a graduate assistant.
At Saint Louis, Peavler worked directly with eight all‑conference selections, including standout Robbie Avila, and contributed to a coaching staff that emphasized both on‑court growth and community outreach.
Joyner, who took the helm of the Beavers program last season, assembled a support group that includes veteran minds like Schertz and Hardaway’s protégés, aiming to restore the program’s competitive edge in the Pac‑12.
A native of Wellington, Florida, Peavler also brings a strong academic background, having balanced coaching duties with community tutoring programs and high‑school mentorship throughout his career.
The Beavers hope that Peavler’s championship pedigree and player‑development focus will translate into quicker wins and a more resilient identity as they navigate a challenging schedule.
