Alexandria Hosts State Softball and Baseball Tournaments
The Dixie Girls Softball State Tournament and the Diamond Youth Baseball Tournament have converged at the Johnny Downs Sports Complex in Alexandria, Louisiana, bringing together 30 softball teams and eight baseball squads from across the state.
Organized by the Dixie Girls Softball league, the event serves as a recreational gateway that awards scholarships and welcomes athletes of all backgrounds, while also fielding all‑star teams that compete for state titles and berths in the World Series.
Alexandria fields a team in every division this year, joining other local contenders such as Oakdale, Grant and Rapides, each hoping to capture a championship and advance to the national stage.
A Family‑Focused Platform
Ashley Johnson, president of the Alexandria Dixie Girls, underscores the league’s commitment to accessibility and a family‑oriented atmosphere, noting that scholarships help players pursue higher education while competing.
The tournaments draw hundreds of visitors each year, injecting revenue into local hotels, restaurants and other businesses, and D‑Bat Alexandria has stepped in to provide water for players and coaches throughout the competition.
Alexandria’s selection as host came after a competitive bidding process, highlighting the city’s growing reputation as a hub for youth sports.
