Soccer Coach Accused of $60,000 Scam
A local soccer coach who has been tied to the Alexandria Soccer Association was taken into custody on June 30 and now faces a slew of fraud-related charges after investigators say he duped more than a dozen families out of nearly $60,000.
According to court filings, Ahmed Mohamed, 31, created a bogus soccer academy called Sporting Soccer Academy and used it to promise a summer camp in Italy, complete with travel arrangements and lodging. Instead of delivering on those promises, prosecutors say he pocketed the money intended for camp fees.
The Fake Academy
The scheme hinged on a fabricated brand, Sporting Soccer Academy, which never existed beyond a few glossy flyers and a website that vanished after the first payments were collected. Parents were told their children would train on European pitches, but the only thing they received was a promise that never materialized.
Legal Fallout
Mohamed was charged with 13 counts of embezzlement and 13 counts of computer fraud, allegations that stem from a scheme that unfolded between November and March. After his arrest, he was released on his own recognizance, but the case continues to draw attention from law‑enforcement officials.
