Alexis Bordas, a standout guard from Wheeling Park High School, is set to become the first player with deep West Virginia roots to join the Mountaineers' women's basketball program in years.
Her high school career is already legendary: she earned Gatorade Player of the Year honors three times, amassed 2,606 points — the second‑most in state history — and set numerous scoring records that still stand.
Bordas grew up watching the Mountaineers and dreaming of wearing the blue and gold, and she says the chance to play for her home state is a dream she never took for granted.
She is acutely aware of the significance of her presence on the roster, hoping her journey will encourage young girls across West Virginia to pick up a basketball and believe they can reach the same heights.
A Recruitment Shaped by Family Ties
The connection between Bordas and the Kellogg family added a personal dimension to her recruitment, making the process feel natural and reinforcing her commitment to the program.
Mark Kellogg, a longtime advocate for the team, has voiced confidence that Bordas can achieve anything she sets her mind to, underscoring the belief that her talent will translate into immediate impact.
Bordas will also be joined by other promising talents, including Ashley Dunn, the last state native to have played multiple seasons for the Mountaineers, who serves as a recent benchmark for in‑state success.
Coaches and teammates alike expect her scoring prowess and clutch performances — demonstrated in high‑stakes games at Duquesne University — to bolster the squad's competitiveness in the upcoming season.
Beyond the statistics, Bordas hopes to leave a lasting legacy, inspiring the next generation of West Virginia athletes to pursue excellence both on and off the court.
