A New Chapter in the Defensive Line
Alijah Carnell arrived in State College after a three‑year stint at Iowa State, where he was a three‑star recruit from Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas. Though he appeared in only two games as a freshman in 2024, recording two tackles, his sophomore season saw a modest uptick with six appearances, six tackles and half a sack.
In January 2026, Carnell announced his move to Penn State, following head coach Matt Campbell to the Big Ten program. The transition was framed as a strategic step to leverage his developmental trajectory within a new defensive scheme.
The Nittany Lions' interior line will be anchored by redshirt seniors Siale Taupaki and Keanu Williams, both projected as starters. Their combined experience and size present a significant hurdle for Carnell, who currently weighs between 299 and 320 pounds, roughly twenty to thirty pounds lighter than the projected starters.
