Four-Star Prospect Commits to Rutgers
Alijah Jones, a 6‑foot‑4, 290‑pound offensive lineman who starred at James Monroe High School in Rochester, New York, announced his commitment to Rutgers Football on Tuesday, bringing a highly anticipated addition to the Scarlet Knights' recruiting class.
The decision follows a spring practice visit to the New Brunswick campus in April, during which Jones said he felt "comfortable and at home" and was impressed by the energy he sensed among players and staff.
He specifically praised the coaching staff, highlighting assistant coach Jim Turner for his genuine engagement and the clear developmental plan presented to prospects.
Jones had previously received offers from a dozen Power Five programs, including Arkansas, Florida, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, South Carolina, Syracuse and Wake Forest, but ultimately chose Rutgers after weighing academic fit, campus culture and the personal connections he forged.
The commitment also marks the cancellation of a planned official visit to Pittsburgh that had been scheduled for next weekend, a trip that now appears unlikely to materialize.
Rutgers coaches expressed enthusiasm about adding a player of Jones's size and work ethic, noting that his skill set aligns well with the team's offensive scheme and could contribute early on.
