Alisa Kresge has officially taken the reins of the University of Richmond’s women’s basketball program, succeeding a legacy of competitive play in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
During her eight‑year stint at the University of Vermont, Kresge transformed the Catamounts into a consistent winner, guiding the team to at least 20 victories in each of her final five seasons and securing the program’s first NCAA tournament appearance since 2010.
Coaching Journey and Philosophy
Before entering the collegiate coaching ranks, Kresge honed her basketball acumen at Marist College, where she both played and later served on the staff for seven seasons, accumulating a deep well of experience that now totals 15 years in the sport.
At Richmond, she is charting a strategy that blends aggressive half‑court defense with an up‑tempo offense, while also emphasizing the growing influence of name, image and likeness opportunities on team dynamics and recruiting.
The coach also acknowledges the historic rivalries that define Richmond basketball, noting that matchups against longtime foes will serve as early litmus tests for her vision and the culture she hopes to cultivate.
Looking ahead, Kresge says the program’s next chapter will be measured not only by wins on the scoreboard but also by the development of student‑athletes who are empowered to leverage their personal brands in a rapidly evolving collegiate landscape.
