A Return to Roots
All-Star catcher Juan Fernandez is back in Fargo for his third season with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, bringing not only his bat but also his wife and young son, Mateo, into a community that has quickly become a second home.
The move reflects more than a career decision; it is a family settlement. Fernandez says the support of his wife, who understands the rigors of a baseball schedule, has been essential, while Mateo, known among fans as “Mini Fan,” occasionally steps onto the field with the team’s Super Fan during games.
Professional baseball can strain any household, but the Fernandez family has turned those challenges into a shared purpose. The catcher’s focus remains on winning and advancing, starting with a strong bond with the pitching staff that he hopes will translate into more victories.
Building a Future
Off the field, the family is establishing roots in Fargo, exploring the city’s neighborhoods and contributing to community events. Their story illustrates how a professional athlete can balance ambition with family life when the environment supports it.
As the season progresses, the RedHawks look to capitalize on the momentum generated by both on‑field performance and the personal connections that the Fernandez family brings to the clubhouse.
