Alpharetta greenlights North Point Mall transformation
The Alpharetta City Council has given its approval to a comprehensive rezoning of North Point Mall, clearing the way for a transformative mixed‑use entertainment district that will reshape the city's commercial landscape.
At the heart of the plan is a 20,000‑seat arena built to NHL specifications, positioned as the centerpiece of the new development and designed to attract a professional hockey franchise.
The complex will also house a 4,000‑seat music hall, a 1,100‑seat movie theater and a 2,000‑seat community hockey rink, providing venues for concerts, film and local sports.
Hospitality and retail components include two hotels with up to 650 rooms, a 35,000‑square‑foot conference center, and roughly 565,000 square feet of shops and restaurants.
The project promises a substantial economic impact, projecting more than 19,000 jobs — both construction and permanent — and $2 billion in direct consumer spending.
Public spaces will occupy over 20 acres, featuring parks, plazas and multi‑use trails that aim to integrate the development with the surrounding community.
Developers New York Life Insurance Co., Jamestown and Machete Group will oversee the phased rollout, with further details to be released as planning progresses.
