A solemn yet hopeful atmosphere will fill Albert R. Kassatly Field on June 13 as alumni from Norwell High School’s baseball program reconvene for a memorial game dedicated to Jack Birtwell. The event brings together players from the 2022 and 2023 squads, former rivals, and friends who share a single purpose: to celebrate the life of a teammate whose passion for the sport was matched only by his kindness off the field.
A Ceremony of Memory
Before the first pitch, Birtwell’s family will be escorted onto the mound for a brief ceremony, during which a framed jersey bearing his name and number will be presented. The moment will serve as a quiet pause, allowing teammates and opponents alike to reflect on the imprint he left on the program.
In addition to the on‑field tributes, the game will serve as a fundraiser for the Jack Birtwell Scholarship Fund, a scholarship established to support student‑athletes who demonstrate both athletic promise and community spirit.
A Journey Beyond High School
Birtwell continued his baseball career at the collegiate level, suiting up for Gordon College before transferring to Sacred Heart University, where he balanced academic rigor with a relentless work ethic. Those who played alongside him recall a player who led by example, often staying after practice to help younger teammates hone their skills.
Organizers include Barrett Jacobs, Tom Jacobs, Scott Achorn, Jamen Durka, and Ryan Snow, who have coordinated the event with school officials and community partners. The gathering aims to provide a healing space for families, friends, and the broader baseball community, turning grief into a shared commitment to keep Birtwell’s legacy alive.
