The University of Akron’s men’s soccer alumni are marking Dr. Tom “Doc” Nash’s 90th birthday with a special tribute, offering commemorative scarves to season ticket holders and highlighting his lasting impact on the program.
A Coach, Scholar, and Explorer
Beyond the sidelines, Nash built a multifaceted career as a professor of geoscience, park ranger, writer and cartographer, illustrating a life devoted to both learning and the outdoors.
His 1986 team captured the national championship, a moment that remains a cornerstone of Akron soccer history and cemented his reputation as a strategic visionary.
Nash also contributed to the university community as a mentor to countless student‑athletes, including his own sons, Michael, Pat and Tim, who followed his footsteps as Zips players.
