Amani Jones never imagined he would get another chance at professional baseball after being let go by the Staten Island FerryHawks just two weeks into his Atlantic League stint.
Rather than retire, the Millersville University alumnus turned to a volunteer coaching role at his alma mater, where he filled out a questionnaire for the Evansville Otters and caught the attention of the club's front office.
A Routine That Defines Success
Jones follows a meticulous daily regimen: a set number of swings, identical ground‑ball fielding drills, and a strict preparation routine that he says keeps his body and mind aligned.
By May, he had secured a roster spot with the Otters and quickly proved his worth, batting .286 with four home runs and 28 RBIs across 56 games, earning a place on the Frontier League all‑star team.
The Evansville Otters, sitting at 36‑25 and second in the Central Division, offer a team environment Jones describes as a rarity in baseball circles, where camaraderie and shared purpose elevate everyone's performance.
