A Decision After the Combine
Amari Allen announced that he will remain in Tuscaloosa for the 2026‑27 campaign, reversing an earlier intention to test the 2026 NBA Draft. The forward had entered the draft after a strong freshman season but withdrew on the final deadline, a move first reported by Sports Illustrated.
Allen’s decision follows a whirlwind pre‑draft process that included participation in the NBA Combine in Chicago and a series of workouts with multiple teams. While his name surfaced frequently in first‑round mock drafts, he told reporter Kevin Sweeney that he would stay in the draft only if guaranteed a first‑round selection.
A Season of Growth
During his rookie year, Allen averaged 11.4 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game, earning a spot on the All‑SEC Freshman Team. He was also recognized as the SEC Freshman of the Week three times, highlighting his consistent impact on the court.
The forward reflected on the emotional toll of Alabama’s Sweet 16 loss to Michigan, admitting that he blamed himself for the defeat. That experience, he said, fueled his resolve to return and elevate his game.
Teammates Also Eyeing the Draft
Joining Allen in the draft pool are fellow Crimson Tide standouts Labaron Philon Jr., Latrell Wrightsell Jr., Houston Mallette and Noah Williamson, all of whom are projected to be selected between June 23‑24. Philon Jr. is widely expected to be a top‑15 pick, underscoring the program’s strong NBA pipeline.
Allen emphasized that his primary goal is to continue developing under the Alabama coaching staff while keeping his NBA aspirations alive. He reiterated his commitment to the university, stating that the next season will be a crucial stepping stone toward his ultimate dream of playing professionally.
