Texas Tech University announced Wednesday that Amari Barrett, a 6‑foot‑4 combo guard from Millwood, Oklahoma, has signed on to join the Red Raiders for the 2026‑27 season. The addition marks the third high school commit for the program and underscores the coaching staff’s continued emphasis on recruiting talent that can develop into impact players.
Barrett arrives after a stellar prep career at Millwood High School, where he helped lead the team to back‑to‑back state championships. As a junior he averaged 18 points, 10 rebounds and four assists per game, earning second‑team All‑State honors and being named Greater Metro Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive year.
Championship Pedigree and Versatility
Known for his athleticism and defensive instincts, Barrett was a key factor in Millwood’s record‑setting 147‑point margin of victory at the 2026 state tournament. His ability to guard multiple positions while contributing offensively makes him a versatile piece for a Texas Tech program looking to deepen its roster ahead of the next season.
The Millwood standout was previously committed to Ball State, but reopened his recruitment in April, exploring options that included SIU‑Edwardsville and UT‑Arlington. Ultimately, Barrett chose the Red Raiders, citing the program’s vision and the opportunity to contribute early as a developmental player.
