Ameerah Saba, the Redford Union quarterback, is determined to turn the page after a season that fell short of expectations. The sophomore signal‑caller is channeling the disappointment into a focused offseason program, aiming to restore the momentum she generated the year before.
A year ago, Saba enjoyed a breakout campaign in which she helped her team finish undefeated and capture the It Takes More League title. Her blend of athleticism, a strong arm and the ability to outrun defenders made her a central figure in the Panthers’ success.
However, the dynamic shifted when star teammate Cameron Cherry, a triple‑threat who could quarterback, run back and receive, was no longer on the field. Without Cherry’s versatility, Saba’s numbers dipped, completing just 34 of 73 passes for 373 yards, four touchdowns and two one‑point conversions, while throwing nine interceptions.
Recognizing the need to adapt, Saba has turned her attention to refining her throwing mechanics and expanding her route‑running skills. She is also working at receiver, preparing to contribute wherever the coaching staff needs her most.
A New Versatility
The offseason work is not just about raw talent; it is about precision and consistency. Saba says she is focused on executing plays correctly and eliminating the mistakes that plagued her late‑season performance.
Looking Forward
With the Michigan Girls High School Flag Football League state tournament on the horizon, Saba is eager to lead the Panthers back to the championship stage. The support from her coaches, teammates and the broader community fuels her confidence that the next chapter will be defined by growth and achievement.
