Amelia Hobson Joins FGCU Women’s Basketball Program

Former North Dakota State standout commits to the Eagles for the 2026‑27 season

Florida Gulf Coast University women's basketball head coach Raina Harmon announced the signing of Amelia Hobson from North Dakota State University for the 2026‑27 season, adding a versatile guard/forward to the Eagles roster.

Hobson arrives after two seasons with the Bison, where she logged 14.4 minutes per game as a sophomore and posted a season‑high nine points against Saint Mary's (MN). She shot 33.0 percent from the field, 25.7 percent from three‑point range and 75.0 percent from the free‑throw line, while also pulling down 60 rebounds, dishing out 23 assists and blocking 15 shots.

Her freshman year saw her average 6.7 minutes per contest, shooting 39.5 percent from the field and 83.3 percent on free throws, and she burst onto the scene with a nine‑point performance in her collegiate debut against Jamestown.

A Strategic Addition for the Eagles

The move underscores FGCU's aggressive recruiting strategy, targeting players who can blend skill, resilience and international perspective. Hobson's blend of size, shooting touch and defensive versatility fits the modern tempo the Eagles aim to impose.

Born in Melbourne, Australia, Hobson capped her school career at Parkdale Secondary College with more than 2,000 career points and was ranked fourth in the Victorian Championship League scoring during the 2023‑24 season. She also earned a spot on the Under‑18 Victorian State Team, experiences that have shaped her defensive mindset and work ethic.

Harmon cited the coaching staff and a clear development plan as the primary reasons for Hobson's decision, emphasizing how the program will help her elevate her game and contribute to the Eagles' pursuit of conference dominance.
