Amilleon Huguley, a standout basketball player from LaFayette, Alabama, has officially signed to join the men's basketball program at Southern Union State Community College.
A Homegrown Talent’s Next Step
The decision to commit to Southern Union was driven by the college's proximity to his family home and the promise of a comprehensive two‑year education that aligns with his academic and athletic goals.
During a signing ceremony attended by coaches, school administrators, and local supporters, Huguley’s former mentors highlighted his work ethic, leadership and selflessness, qualities that have defined his high school career at LaFayette High School.
Head coach Chase Lewis praised the young athlete, noting that Huguley’s achievements on the court are matched by his dedication in the classroom and his willingness to embrace new challenges.
Huguley capped his senior season with a runner‑up finish in the state championship game, averaging nine points, seven rebounds and three steals per game while earning Area 6 All‑Tournament, 2A All‑Tournament and 2A All‑State First Team honors.
Beyond the statistics, the player reflects on the supportive environment at LaFayette, where coaches and teammates lifted him during difficult moments and celebrated his growth both on and off the court.
Looking ahead, Huguley is eager to contribute to the Skyhawks' program, continue his academic pursuits, and build on the dream of reaching new heights in his basketball journey.
