Marquette University has officially signed Amina Traore, a 6‑foot‑2 center originally from France, to join the Golden Eagles for the upcoming 2026‑27 season. The announcement underscores the program’s intent to bolster its frontcourt with a player who combines size, defensive intensity and offensive versatility.
A Strategic Addition to the Roster
Traore arrives after a stint in the French league system, most recently with Monaco Basket Association in the LF2 division. During the 2025‑26 campaign she logged 2.8 points and 2.3 rebounds per game in limited minutes, yet her impact was felt through strong defensive positioning and the ability to stretch the floor.
Her international résumé includes appearances for France’s U16, U18 and U19 squads, highlighted by a notable performance at the 2023 FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup where she averaged 3.9 rebounds per game. A year earlier, at the 2022 FIBA U18 Women’s European Championship, she contributed 6.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.
Head coach Cara Consuegra praised the newcomer’s physicality and team‑first mentality, noting that Traore’s versatility will allow her to anchor the paint defensively while also switching onto perimeter players and creating spacing on offense.
Beyond raw statistics, the coach highlighted Traore’s competitive spirit, work ethic and alignment with Marquette’s culture as key factors in the recruitment. The program believes her defensive instincts and willingness to adapt will complement the existing roster and elevate the team’s overall competitiveness.
Looking Ahead to 2026‑27
As the Golden Eagles prepare for the next season, the addition of Traore is expected to deepen the team’s frontcourt rotation and provide a new defensive anchor. Fans can anticipate a style of play that emphasizes disciplined defense, strategic spacing and a relentless pursuit of rebounds, all hallmarks of the coach’s vision for the program.
