Louisville Cardinals have secured a significant recruiting win with the commitment of Amiya Joyner, a versatile forward who brings a blend of scoring prowess and rebounding tenacity to the program.
A Strategic Addition for the Cardinals
Joyner, who spent three seasons at East Carolina before transferring to LSU, earned immediate respect with a 32‑point outing against Howard and consistently posted double‑digit rebounds, including two games with 20 or more boards. Her career averages of 9.2 points and 7.5 rebounds per game at LSU mask a higher output during her junior year at East Carolina, where she tallied 15 points and 9 rebounds per contest, a performance that earned her 2023 AAC Freshman of the Year honors.
The extra year granted by a temporary release in Louisiana allows Joyner to join the Cardinals with an additional season of eligibility, giving coach Jeff Walz a seasoned option for a frontcourt that is already projected as a preseason Top 15 contender. Her physical style and versatility are expected to deepen the team’s interior rotation.
Looking Ahead to a Promising Season
Walz, who has guided the Cardinals to competitive seasons in recent years, highlighted Joyner’s ability to stretch the floor and protect the rim, noting that her presence will complement the existing roster and provide the depth needed for a demanding schedule. The coaching staff believes the addition could be pivotal in maintaining consistency against both conference and non‑conference opponents.
Louisville opens its campaign on November 2 at the KFC Yum! Center against Bellarmine, a game that will serve as the first test of the new‑look frontcourt. The matchup will give fans an early glimpse of how Joyner’s skill set translates to the Cardinals’ fast‑paced, aggressive style.
With the new season approaching, the excitement surrounding the Cardinals is palpable, and Joyner’s commitment underscores the program’s upward trajectory as it aims to translate preseason expectations into on‑court success.
