Forest Grove High School announced this week that Amy Denson will take over as the head coach of the girls varsity basketball program, bringing a résumé that blends championship pedigree with international playing experience.
A Fresh Coaching Vision
Denson, a two‑time state champion at Crater High School in Central Point, starred at Arizona State University before embarking on an eight‑year professional career that spanned five countries, and she most recently served as an assistant at Crater and Portland State before relocating to Forest Grove in 2019.
Her arrival follows the abrupt departure of first‑year head coach Aaron Bronikowski midseason due to personal issues, a transition that left the Vikings with an 11‑14 record under interim guidance from assistant Doug Lamb, who steered the team into the state playoffs.
The roster now features a blend of youth and experience, with returning guard Rylie Betteridge and junior guard Brooklyn Lamb among those looking to build on last season’s promise, while the departure of senior forward Cali Davis leaves a notable void.
Denson says she is focused on instilling a culture of hard work, mutual support and enjoyment, aiming to ensure each class leaves the program stronger than it arrived and that the team always steps onto the floor ready to compete.
In her first weeks on the job, Denson has been meeting with players, outlining expectations and emphasizing the importance of collective growth, a philosophy she hopes will translate into sustained success on the hardwood.
