Andrew Body, the Alabama State quarterback, has been crowned the ASWA Small College Player of the Year after a breakout season that delivered the program’s first ten‑win campaign in more than two decades. His performance helped the Bulldogs surge to a 10‑2 record, marking a turning point for a program that had not reached double‑digit wins since the early 2000s.
Body’s efficiency was a cornerstone of that success. He completed 70.6 percent of his passes for 1,770 yards and 20 touchdowns, while also adding 518 rushing yards and four scores on the ground. His ability to move the ball both through the air and on the ground placed him at the top of the SWAC in touchdown passes and points responsible for, totaling 144.
Awards and Accolades
The recognition extends beyond the ASWA honor. Body was named the SWAC Offensive Player of the Year, earned the BOXTOROW National Offensive Player of the Year award, and was selected as the Stats Perform HBCU National Player of the Year. He also collected three SWAC Offensive Player of the Week selections and two HBCU National Player of the Week honors throughout the season.
The awards will be presented at Jacksonville State University, where Body will receive the ASWA Small College Athlete of the Year trophy. In a brief statement, he expressed gratitude for the acknowledgment, emphasizing that the achievement belongs to the entire team and the supportive relationships that have shaped his development.
Body’s ultimate aim is to translate this individual acclaim into a championship run. He highlighted the importance of camaraderie and collective effort, noting that the team’s next goal is to capture a title and continue building on the momentum generated by this historic season.
