The University of Michigan has named Andrew Brewer its new general manager for the ice hockey program, a move that signals a bold step toward restoring the Wolverines to national prominence.
A Wealth of Experience
Brewer arrives with a résumé that spans nearly two decades across the NHL, international competition, and collegiate hockey. His most recent role was an assistant coach with the Anaheim Ducks during the 2025‑26 season, and he previously contributed to the staffs of the Detroit Red Wings, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Florida Panthers.
His career includes three gold‑medal performances with Hockey Canada at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games, the 2016 World Cup of Hockey and the 2016 IIHF World Championship, highlighting his ability to excel on the world’s biggest stages.
In his new capacity, Brewer will oversee hockey operations, roster construction, player development and the integration of advanced analytics, while also cultivating relationships with the NHL and prospective recruits.
A native of Fredericton, New Brunswick, Brewer’s hockey roots run deep. He began his coaching journey as a video analyst at the University of New Brunswick, guiding the team to national titles in 2009 and 2011 before climbing the professional ranks.
University officials expressed confidence that Brewer’s blend of NHL experience and international perspective will help shape a sustainable, championship‑contending program for the future.
