Andrew Dakich Joins Miami RedHawks Coaching Staff

Former Ohio State and Illinois State assistant brings winning pedigree to Oxford

A Strategic Addition for the RedHawks

Miami University announced this week that Andrew Dakich will join the RedHawks' men's basketball coaching staff as an assistant, bringing a blend of playing experience and proven coaching acumen.

Dakich's basketball journey began in Ann Arbor, where he spent four years as a member of the University of Michigan Wolverines, earning All‑Big Ten Academic honors three times and contributing to three NCAA Tournament appearances.

After a graduate senior season at Ohio State, where he appeared in all 34 games and helped the Buckeyes to a 25‑win campaign and a Round of 32 showing, Dakich transitioned into coaching, first serving as a graduate assistant at his alma mater before moving to Elon University as director of basketball operations.

His next stop was a four‑year stint at Illinois State, where he helped the Redbirds improve win totals each season, culminating in a 20‑win season and multiple Quad 1 victories in 2025‑26 — the program's best record since 2016‑17.

Speaking about the new role, Dakich expressed excitement about contributing to the RedHawk community and helping the team build on its recent momentum.

The hiring comes as Miami looks to strengthen its roster and coaching depth ahead of the upcoming season, with head coach Travis Steele and senior consultant Chris Holtmann both already in place.
