Andrew Elwell, a 2004 graduate of Marshwood High School, has been appointed interim head coach of the Hawks for the upcoming 2026 season, stepping in after longtime mentor Alex Rotsko announced his retirement after 13 years at the helm.
Roots of a Coach
Elwell’s football roots stretch back to his high school days, where he played every position except quarterback and remembers a 28‑8 win over Kennebunk as a highlight of his Marshwood career.
After starring on the offensive line at the University of New Hampshire from 2005 to 2008, he returned to the region as a special education teacher, a role he has maintained for 17 years while simultaneously building his coaching résumé.
His first coaching steps came at Noble High School under Guy Lajeunesse, where he absorbed a philosophy that blends discipline with community engagement. When the Marshwood position opened, his family gave unanimous support, seeing it as a chance to give back to the community that shaped him.
A Legacy to Preserve
Rotsko departs with a 100‑34 record and six state championships, a benchmark that Elwell hopes to honor. The Hawks enter the 2026 season with a core of returning players, though they fell short in the Class B South semifinal the previous year.
Elwell’s vision centers on continuity and connection — maintaining the program’s winning culture while reinforcing the camaraderie and resilience that defined his own playing days. He aims to keep the community’s passion alive as the team looks ahead.
