South Carolina’s baseball program has secured a commitment from Maryland right‑hander Andrew Koshy, who revealed his decision on Instagram on Monday. The move comes as the Gamecocks look to reinforce their pitching rotation ahead of the upcoming season.
A Family Legacy and a New Chapter
Koshy follows a lineage of collegiate competition; his mother, Betsy Koshy, starred in softball at Stony Brook University. That athletic pedigree appears to have shaped his approach on the mound, contributing to a high‑school career that earned him NSCHSAA Pitcher of the Year honors after a 5‑0 record and a 0.57 ERA.
At Maryland, Koshy appeared in 43 relief games over the past two seasons, compiling a 4‑3 record and a 6.29 ERA. In his final year, he improved markedly, posting a 5.84 ERA across a team‑high 25 appearances and limiting opponents to a .248 batting average, a notable drop from the .310 mark he posted in 2025.
Strategic Implications for the Gamecocks
The addition of Koshy not only adds depth to the bullpen but also brings a familiar link to South Carolina’s new associate head coach and hitting coach, Bill Cilento. The two previously worked together at Wake Forest, where Cilento served as hitting coach before moving to Columbia.
Koshy will retain two years of eligibility under the NCAA’s age‑based rules, giving the Gamecocks a reliable arm for the next two seasons. His experience in the Atlantic Coast Conference and proven ability to improve his statistics make him a strategic asset as South Carolina aims to climb the SEC rankings.
