Andrew Lafond Returns to La Salle as Director of Basketball Operations

Former Explorer star reunites with his alma mater to lead a new era of program development

A Homecoming for a Rising Executive

La Salle University has named Andrew Lafond as its new Director of Basketball Operations, a move that underscores the program’s commitment to blending on‑court expertise with forward‑thinking administration.

Lafond, a 2022 alumnus who once wore the Explorer’s jersey from 2018 to 2022, returns after stints as a graduate assistant, a video coordinator for Richmond, and an assistant in the Detroit Pistons’ Basketball Operations office.

During his collegiate career he appeared in 16 games, earned a place on the Atlantic 10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll twice, and helped the team capture a Philadelphia Catholic League championship at Archbishop Wood.

Off the court, Lafond graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and later earned an MBA, credentials that he says equip him to manage the program’s financial and operational demands.

Strategic Vision for the Future

His most recent role at Richmond involved overseeing video operations, coordinating scouting reports, and supporting recruitment efforts, experiences that La Salle’s athletic director believes will translate into a more data‑driven approach.

“Andrew’s blend of playing pedigree, academic rigor, and professional front‑office exposure makes him the ideal candidate to elevate our basketball program,” said Darris Nichols, head coach of the Explorers.

The appointment also ties La Salle to a broader network of basketball talent rooted in the Philadelphia region, linking the university to nearby institutions such as the University of Richmond and the Detroit Pistons organization.
