A New Chapter for the Grasshoppers
Andrew Perry has been appointed head coach of the Grasshoppers Special Olympics Soccer Program, taking over from Carl Michaud, the founder who established the initiative years ago.
Perry, who recently relocated to central Maine, brings a palpable enthusiasm and a clear commitment to the program’s mission of fostering skill development, teamwork, and inclusion for athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The program, which welcomes participants of all abilities, uses soccer as a vehicle for building friendships, confidence, and community pride, while emphasizing sportsmanship and fun.
Steve Richard, chair of the area management team, highlighted Perry’s alignment with the program’s core values, noting that his leadership reflects a shared dedication to inclusion and helping each athlete reach their fullest potential.
With the new season slated to begin in July, families, athletes, and supporters are already looking forward to another year of competition and growth under Perry’s guidance.
Community Outlook
The upcoming season promises fresh opportunities for athletes to compete, form lasting bonds, and represent their community with pride, as the Grasshoppers continue to champion accessibility and excellence on the field.
