Draft Day Atmosphere
Andrew Williamson gathered with family and friends at his uncle’s house on the morning of the MLB Draft, eyes fixed on the broadcast that would determine his professional destiny.
A standout at Northside Christian School in St. Petersburg, Williamson posted a senior year batting average above .400 and earned a spot at the University of Central Florida, where he helped the Knights reach the NCAA tournament in 2026.
The St. Louis Cardinals selected him with the 68th overall pick in the Competitive Balance Round B, a moment that culminated in a $1.29 million signing bonus and a contract that promises a future in the major leagues.
Following the draft, Williamson will report to the Florida Complex League Cardinals rookie team in Jupiter, where he will continue to refine his craft under the guidance of the organization’s development staff.
A Grateful Outlook
In a statement, Williamson expressed deep appreciation for the educational and athletic programs at both Northside Christian School and UCF, crediting them with shaping his work ethic and love for the game.
He also highlighted the role of The Yard in Largo, where he trained while awaiting the draft, as a pivotal part of his preparation.
Looking forward, the former UCF Knight is eager to translate his collegiate success into professional performance, beginning with his debut in the Cardinals’ rookie circuit.
