Beatrice High School announced the hiring of Andy Bent as its new head baseball coach, tapping a familiar face who grew up in the community and excelled both on the mound and in the classroom. Bent, a former Nebraska pitcher and school alum, returns after stints coaching at Clay Center High School in Kansas and Crete, Nebraska, bringing a blend of playing experience and leadership to the role.
A Homecoming for a Local Alum
The Orangemen finished the 2026 season with a 4-17 record, a result that left the program eager for fresh direction. Bent, who previously prepared his résumé in anticipation of a vacancy, stepped into the position as soon as it became available, signaling his commitment to immediate impact.
Drawing on his own journey as a collegiate and minor‑league player, Bent plans to mentor his new charges by sharing the lessons learned on the field and in the locker room. He believes that personal connection and experience are key to unlocking each player's potential.
In his first days on the job, Bent has already begun reaching out to younger athletes, offering one‑on‑one lessons and organizing summer coaching sessions. He even took a handful of players out for practice on a recent Friday, using the outing to build chemistry and familiarity with the new coaching staff.
Bent expressed deep gratitude for the town of Beatrice, crediting it with shaping his character and career. He sees his new role as an opportunity to give back, hoping to return the support he received while building a program that future generations can be proud of.
