Known on social media as 'The Baseball Spy,' Prinstein had cultivated a following by posting covert recordings from behind the scenes of professional baseball. His self‑appointed moniker hinted at a fascination with gathering insider information, a practice that ultimately led to his downfall.
During a recent series in Denver, he was spotted by Rockies personnel recording the team's coaches as they strategized on the field. The footage was captured in broad daylight, leaving no doubt about the intentional nature of the act.
Angels general manager Perry Minasian acted swiftly, issuing an apology to the Rockies and confirming that Prinstein would no longer represent the club. Minasian emphasized that the organization values integrity and will not tolerate breaches of conduct.
Major League Baseball conducted its own review and concluded that Prinstein acted alone, deciding against imposing fines or stripping the Angels of draft picks. The league's statement underscored that the matter would remain an internal club issue.
